I talk to myself

No, I am not crazy, but I talk to myself. I try to do it as much as I can. In the morning when I wake up, as I eat breakfast, picking out the clothes I want to wear, walking to the car. I am practicing my Spanish. How do I say "Yes, you can taste my cereal, mi hija", "Give me a hug before you leave", or "I need to remember to get gas for my car today"?

In my latest Spanish conversations, sometimes when I have to say something, I completely freeze up. My mind goes completely blank. I have absolutely nothing to say. I am pressuring myself to say the right words, in the right way. So this is why I am talking to myself now, trying to become even more used to speaking in Spanish.

Not sure if it will help or anything, but I figure it may be another thing to get me comfortable speaking in Spanish.

  1. I think you're doing well Angela, you're certainly on the path to reaching your goal.

Do you have many hispanic friends where you live?

    Regards,
    Pete

  2. Hi Pete.

No, I don't, I think that is my problem. Actually I have one coworker friend that is Puerto Rican, but we haven't talked together, and lately she is super busy at work.

  3. Are there any meet-up groups in your area? For example, in Philadelphia I belong to a group, French Cafe and Philly French, where we all speak French over coffee and pastries every Saturday. The idea behind these groups is to practice our target language. My group involvement has made speaking in French so much more relaxing. (I still have a long way to go, for sure.)

You could form a group for Spanish speakers, yes? In any case, I think your private soliloquies are very useful for developing the habit of speaking and thinking in Spanish. :-)

  5. Hi Angela!! You are not crazy at all, or at least not more than me (I also do it in English)!
I definitely think to speak out loud is a good way to practice your Spanish. And you know what? You can do it whenever you want. You don't need to meet with anyone or follow a schedule! So it's a good way to try to get more relaxed when speaking Spanish.
Of course, it's always better to speak with others, but yeah, it's not always that easy.
Anyway, this group thing sound also interesting. I would be pleased to join the one you'll create, but I think it will be a little bit far away for me! ;-)

  6. Albert,

Glad to know I'm not crazy, lol.

Not sure if I will do a group now. I would really like to, but I think it will be a lot of work, and I have been very busy with work lately. It is still something I would like to do.
